USB "Please insert disk into removable disk"

I have a problem with my Lexar 3.0 USB drive.

When I try using it on my Windows 7 computer it shows up but says "please insert disk into removable disk".

When I try using it on my Windows 8 computer the USB drive just starts flashing, and does nothing else.

Solutions I've tried:

  1. Uninstalling USB drive
  2. Turning on computer with USB drive in cpu
  3. Recovering and scanning for problem

And non of these worked :(

Oh and 1 more thing I can't format the USB drive

Any solutions?

Please help! Please post video or step by step instruction!

Hi Hitoki,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

This problem occurs when you insert your USB drive in any port. It throws a message because it tries to get a drive letter which is already reserved .You can solve this issue by following either of two below given methods:

**Method 1:**Insert the USB drive before starting the windows. Make sure that USB drive is not set as the priority boot device. It has been seen sometimes that due to USB, windows hangs a bit during logging on. If it happens with you as well then remove your USB immediately and insert again when the Windows starts.

Method 2: Use the Disk Management to change the drive letter and thus will assign a new drive letter so as to avoid overwriting. The steps are as follows:

Press Windows key + R to open “Run

Now type “diskmgmt.msc” and press Enter.

You will now see the names of all drives. Select your USB drive there.

Right click on the USB drive and click on “Change Drive Letter and Paths” and assign a new drive name to your USB drive.

Now close the setting and check if you are able to use the USB.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know the result, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

    Hi :)

i have the exact same problem and the methods you mentioned did not work for me at all :(

i have a media player which used to work fine before i upgraded my windows 8 to windows 10.

After i upgraded it, somehow now i get this error message "please insert disk into removable disk"

everytime i try to connect my media player into my laptop. i tried searching online for solutions

and i pretty much did everything, but same issue. i downloaded jetflash, an online usb recovery tool

which some online users recommended, but same problem, it didn't solve the issue. i also tried changing

the drive letter in disk management, and again, same problem, it didn't help. Nothing is working :(

i would really appreciate it if maybe you can suggest another method please :)
