Windows Defender error on intitialization

Hi,

I was accidentally redirected to a page when browsing the interwebs, and I think I got a virus from it. Immediately afterwards I tried to run windows defender, but to no avail because I receive error 0x80073b01. I tried going into command prompt looking for a reparsepoint, but was still unsuccessful. I cant uninstall it manually, or after using programs like HitMan. I cant turn on malware or virus protection in control panel, the same message pops up. Please advise.

Well, hitman was ineffective. It "failed to load" when I was in the Bios. trying EEK now

Assuming you used an 'uninfected' machine to download and create your HMPK stick, was the infected machine OFF when you inserted the stick? and then powered it ON?

If you are getting error message: 'Failed to boot', it means that HMPK can not determine what the active Windows partition on your HD is. You may try to contact SurfRight's 'Quick Support' for more information about this issue (may be after trying the other suggested tools).

I tried to run windows defender, but to no avail because I receive error 0x80073b01.

WD might have been disabled (blocked) by some rootkit type malware yet to be identified.

I think your best shot would be to download HitmanPro.**Kickstart** (HMPK) 'using an uninfected machine' to create an specific HMPK USB Flash Drive (or bootable CD), and then run it on the infected computer. Follow the tool's directions. A HMPK User Manual and FAQ's are available here and here.

If this tool doesn't do the trick for you, you may also try the Emsisoft Emergency Kit (EEK).

    Alternatively:

Please report back with your results and the name of any detection made by these tools. Good Luck!
