Problem with installing KB2553140 "Code 8007006"

OT: Problem with installing KB2553140.

Split from this thread.

Hi - Want to jump into this thread because I am facing the exact same problem with the same update (and others as well for Office 2010). I am on Win7 x64 with Office 2010 32-bit.

History of the problem:

  • While using OneNote 2010, I was prompted to download/install OneNote 2013, which I did.
  • Liking it ok, I went to Change my Office 2010 install - I was going to remove OneNote 2010
  • The system tried to run the Office installer but it never actually ran or opened a window. I tried again several times but it never ran the installer where you can choose to change/repair/remove. Finally I just rebooted.
  • On reboot, all the office apps worked but all the file icons on the desktop/explorer were generic
  • after that I uninstalled OneNote 2013 thinking that had caused a problem. That uninstalled fine.
  • Still no joy with the 2010 installer, it just would not run. I finally used a 3rd party uninstaller to force office 2010 to be removed completely, which succeeded
  • I reinstalled office 2010, which went fine, but windows then wanted to install a bunch of updates. The first batch installed fine, however with the 2nd batch I am seeing the exact same error & symptoms as in this thread:

  * it downloads & starts to install the updates (22 of them, including KB2553140)

  * it seems to progress, but in the end it errors out with "Code 8007006" -Windows Update encountered an unknown error"

  * none of the 22 updates will install, as a whole or individually. Other updates (not related to office 2010) have installed fine (eg, a recent IE update).

  * I tried the fullfile version of KB2553140, it returns the same error as Hossein_2013 ("an error occurred while running detection") and the update fails.

  * after reinstalling office 2010, the installer will now run under add/remove programs, I have run the office repair sequence and rebooted, but the problem persists****

I have tried a considerable number of things to get this working again. I have had multiple chats w/msft support, they have run a system file scan (no problems found), chkdsk (no problems found), office repair, a few fixits etc. but nothing seems to work. Now they want $99 to debug it further... :(

I was thinking if I could uninstall office and completely clean up all its state, registry settings, etc etc and then reinstall, that it might work, but not sure how to do that effectively. Short of reinstalling windows & starting over, what options are there?!

Appreciate any help, and I hope this post can help find a solution for myself & others having this issue!

Thanks,

Tim

The next error is most likely implicated with your problems with Office. Is your copy of Office 2013 Click to Run?

These entries appear to contradict what you say in your original post namely I reinstalled office 2010, which went fine. As far as it appears above, it is Office 2013 which is installed not Office 2010, with the exception of Office 2010 Tools. I think you may be best served by removing all versions of Office and reinstalling. Disable Norton before attempting this. If that doesn’t work you may need to remove Norton as it is well known to interfere with Microsoft software. It is Norton that is probably preventing the creation of System restore points.

    Hi Gerry,

Yes, there is 100GB unallocated. This is set aside by Samsung's "overprovisioning" feature, which (supposedly) optimizes the performance & increases the SSD drive life (there is an option to enable this in Samsung's SSD Magician software).

I've copied the driver view report to my onedrive here:

    Thanks,

You appear to have 100gb of unallocated disk space on this drive. Is this correct?

Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your OneDrive. To get a report on all drivers select Edit, Select All followed by File, Save Selected Items.

To troubleshoot most computer problems it helps to look at available clues in the System Information file and the Event Viewer logs. An experienced eye can pick out the needles in the haystack and see more clearly the precise nature of the problem or problems.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.
