Automatic update does not work

Split from this thread.

I have the same problem. After June 9 2015 the updates are not installed anymore. I’ve run SFC /SCANNOW in elevated command prompt then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. However it couldn’t fix the corrupted files (sysmain.sdb,  AcGenral.dll, drvmain.sdb, mshtmled.dll, JNWDRV.dll, utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json) so I did a windows refresh.

My surprise was that after windows refresh the windows update still didn’t work.

Then I’ve downloaded and installed manually KB3065822 and KB3050267 trying to fix windows update client. The automatic update still didn’t work.

Then I’ve disabled windows update for other Microsoft products when I update Windows. This time the updates are installed. I would like to get updates for office 2007 if possible. Does anyone know how to fix this last issue?

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type msinfo32 and press the ENTERkey. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone fresh copies of your System and Application logs (two files) from your Event Viewer to your One Drive and post a link here. You can remove the earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key. From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

Select the keyboard shortcut Win+X, and click **Command Prompt (Admin)**on the drop down menu. Type *cd* and press ENTER. Type or copy and paste the command "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth" without the quotes and press the ENTER key. Type or copy and paste the command " DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" without the quotes and press the ENTER key. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. These procedures can take a long time to complete so you need to be extremely patient. Type exit when it completes, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

Please upload a copy of the DISM log file as a shared file to your OneDrive and post a link here.

You may need to show hidden files. Use the keyboard shortcut Win+X to access Control Panel, Folder Options and select View, Advanced Settings. Verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Open Windows Explorer (keyboard shortcut Win+E) and locate your C partition Expand C along the file path C>windows>logs>DISM>dism.log. To expand C click the arrowhead to left of C and repeat with windows and sub-folders as necessary.

    Hi Gerry,

I’ve updated the drivers and now is all good in device manager.

I’ve also removed the antivirus, restarted and reinstalled.

    I’ve also run

    C:>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I also shutdown the pc every night and restart once a week.

The updates for Microsoft products still don’t work. Do you have any other tips?

    Lucian

After the process has finished, you may receive one of the following messages:

•Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

•Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

•Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

•Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

    Which message was received?

You should shut down your computer overnight. Restarting the computer clears the memory so that it has better resources available to run demanding tasks like Windows Update. A restart also triggers Windows Update to install downloaded updates. Computers that normally rely on a battery for power, should be connected to a mains electricity supply when they are to carry out a lengthy task like updating. Connecting to the router using an ethernet cable rather than by wireless will give a more reliable connection and faster download times.

    Hi Jerry,

Please find the link on the requested export and capture:

    https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2E31303A447D8DF6!7828&authkey=!AMpe90LUpqM9FGM&ithint=file%2czip

     - the reports are saved in normal mode

     - since I have the problem updating the other Microsoft products I keep the option (Give me updates for other Microsoft products) disabled in windows update setting. I've enabled it this morning to capture the problem in the reports. Since I've enabled this option in the windows update settings the sate is Checking for updates and the progress bar is spinning. It will stay like this for days and will prevent even windows system updates to be installed as well.

Let me know what you find out.

    Thanks,

    Lucian
