    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

You may face this issue if Windows Installer is not working properly or some third party software is conflicting.

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

    Method 1:

Verify that the Windows Installer service is set to Automatic, to do this follow the steps below:

    1. Press Windows key+ X key and select Run.
    2. Type services.msc in RUN, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    3. In the Services list, double-click Windows Installer.
    4. In the Windows Installer Properties dialog box, click Automatic in the Startup type list.
    5. Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.

Check if you are able to install the Microsoft  Flight Simulator FSX.

If issue still persists try method 2.

    Method 2: Perform Clean Boot.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

Refer: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

If the above steps do not help, you may also access the link below and contact Flight Simulator support for further assistance on this issue and check if you need to change any setting to install the game.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows.
