Google Chrome has stopped working: StackHash error (also applies to Internet Explorer and Firefox)

I've recently started getting errors around every hour or so, but sometimes they come in large groups (largest I've got was 20 errors at once). The Problem Signature is always the same:

    It is related to a Windows Update. I am not getting the error anymore after updating on the 4th. However I cannot find the KB number of the update that fixed it. I've already tried setting Chrome to compatibility mode, it doesn't work.  

    Just try updating your system and it should be fixed.

    This must be related to a recent Windows update as it seems it's happening to a lot of users. In fact, it started for me right after I updated Windows 8.1 this past Tuesday. I've read somewhere that setting Chrome to compatibility mode to Windows 7 resolves the issue. This is obviously only a temporary workaround -- but hopefully it will get rid of the errors until the issue is permanently fixed. 

    I just set mine and if I don't post here again, it probably worked. Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon, though. I shouldn't have to change compatibility for Chrome..
