Windows update error 0x8024402C and errors found after running SFC

Anonymous
2015-07-25T13:34:01+00:00

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and have been trying to get it to update.  Have tried using the Windows update trouble shooter, which gives me this message: Service registration is missing or corrupt & Windows update error 0x8024402C(2015-07-25-T-02_20_10P)

Then tried the system file checker in admin mode and only got to 9% after which it gave a cannot complete message.  Have tried a clean boot then running the system file checker, same issue and I have tried doing it in safe mode but got the same again.

The CBS file has this on it after running the SFC

I have now simply re-loaded my Windows 7 and this sorted the issue.  It also then loaded updates and eventually even loaded the windows 10 upgrade.

Thanks if you looked at this page, hope your problems can be solved this easy as well.

    Hi

Have tried working through both of the above suggestions including turning off all antivirus and fire wall programs, still nothing and the system file checker still only gets to the same place.

It looks as if the computer (my partners) has not successfully updated in at least a year, when I close down it tries to install 109 updates but fails to do so.

The other thing that comes up when I try to update is an error message 8007010B which I believe is a error that means the directory name is invalid?

When I run the window update trouble shooter  I get windows update error 0x8024402c which again looking at the error code list is WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED which is described as Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either the     proxy server or target server name can not be resolved. Corresponding to     ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.

    Hello Graham,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better.

Did you make any hardware or software changes to the Surface prior to the issue?

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving it.

Windows update 0x8024402C error might be caused by a program running on your computer that's preventing Windows update Services(SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs. and proxy servers.

Please use steps provided in this article and check if it helps.

    Refer:

    Windows Update error 8024402C

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-8024402c#1TC=windows-7

    Important notes:

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps from section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” to reset the computer to start as usual.

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

For fixing issues found after running system file checker, you may refer "How to manually replace a corrupted system file with a known good copy of the file" in this article and check.

    Refer:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

    I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you
