Windows Update Fail - SQL Server Update

Hi all,

I've been having trouble installing 2 Windows Update as they keep on failing:

  • KB3045318 (Security Update for SQL Server 2012 SP1
  • KB2958429 (Security Update for SQL Server 2012 SP2

So I decided to see if it was some download problem and downloaded the updates manually and tried to install them. The following is the error from the installer:

An error occurred during the setup process of the feature.

Error details:

§ Error installing SQL Server Database Engine Services Instance Features

The Database Engine error log location is missing from the Parameters key.

Error code: 0x851A004A

Obviously that link is broken (I guess the push to the new Windows 10 friendly layout has done that).

Anyone have any tips on resolving this?

    Updated to Windows 10, and the update installed when I restarted the first night.

    Hello,

    This may happen when the MSDB database has a wrong owner. Please change the owner to the “sa” account as mentioned in the following thread:
