Changing Local User account name not reflecting at command prompt

I had a long user name 'chromepet' which I kind of don't want to have. So I renamed the account as home. I can see the change in start menu area ....

But when I open command prompt it opens under user chromepet and not home.

I tired changing directory to home it worked fine. I went a step ahead and digged under c:\users and noticed all the documents, picture are still under chromepet and home is just a decorative stuff

I don't want this, so I created a new user account short name - nemo. That's only start of problem now all the apps I installed from store are gone, I sign in and noticed that the apps are installed separately for every user. Given that I'm from India broadband here is not that broad! too slow It would take me at least a week to get the same apps installed for the new account :( is there a work around? Like some command prompt stuff?

    Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

Adding to Wendy Teresa suggestion, if you had created the user account “chromepet” when you first set up your Windows 8.1 then you won’t be able to change or rename the user account because it is default by design.

For the new user account “Nemo” you must download and install all the apps from the Windows store. There may be some paid apps for which the app developer may give you permissions to download on multiple user accounts while the free apps can be downloaded and installed again.

Also, do post us the status after installing the Virtual Machine software.

Hope this information helps, please get back to us for further support on Windows. We will be glad to help you.

    Thank You.

    Hello,

I would like to tell you that even if you delete the user account from the computer, the user name will always show  under C drive User folder. This behavior only occurs when you create that particular account at the time of setting up you computer for the first time. The only ways to remove that is to do a total fresh installation of your system.
