Hyper-V for virtual firewall

Hi everyone,

I am really new to Hyper-V, so please don't mind if this is a silly question. I currently own a HPE Microserver with 4 NIC that I would install Windows Server 2019 on. Now, I would like to install a single virtual machine that acts as a transparent/bridging firewall between 2 of those 4 NIC to filter all traffic, while the other 2 NIC would serve for general purpose for the host machine. Is that possible with Hyper-V? If so, how would I configure it?

Thanks for any help!

Best regards,

Peter

Sure, you can follow along here to build a virtual machine with RRAS router (internal to external vSwitch) role.

Thanks! So I would dedicate two NICs to the virtual machine (and possible an additional external NIC for management) and if set to transparent mode all traffic coming in on the first dedicated NIC would go to the second dedicated NIC and vice versa?

Sure, the firewall itself needs to be configured, but I just needed the traffice get to the virtual NIC at all :). Thanks!
