Touch Mouse does not scroll smoothly.

Hi Everyone,

I am using a Surface pro 3 and a Microsoft Touch mouse.

I love everything about the mouse but when scrolling, it does not ease out smoothly.

I tried playing with the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard scrolling setting, the speed of wheel setting in the mouse properties, internet options> advanced> browsing>smooth scrolling.

Any Ideas what I need to do to make this mouse scroll smoother?

Regards,

Ahmad Abdolsaheb

Hello Ahmad,

Since your concern is about the expected performance of Mouse feature on your Surface Pro 3. We need few more details before we can suggest you troubleshooting on this issue.

  1. Is it working like this since the very first time?
  2. What is the complete model number of your touch mouse?
  3. Have you installed all the pending Windows Updates?
  4. Have you updated/installed necessary drivers for mouse?
  5. Is there any Windows Update which has been failed recently?

Note: To know the KB numbers of the failing updates, follow the underlying steps:

  1. Press Windows + C to open charms bar.
  2. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
  3. In the left pane, click View update history.

As of now, I suggest you the following methods.

Method 1:

Boot the computer in a **Clean Boot** state and check the status. A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue.

Clean Boot Disclaimer: Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

Follow Method 2 after Clean Boot.

Method 2:

Ensure that all the Windows Updates are installed on your computer as the issue may be occurring due to some missing security updates.

Before proceeding further, please check if **Automatic App Updates are on.**

After personalizing app updates, follow the steps to install available Windows Updates.

  1. Press Windows + C, type Windows Update in the Search box, then click Windows Update in the results pane.
  2. Click Check for Updates. After the scan is complete, click Review optional updates.
  3. Click the check box next to the updates, then click Install updates.
  4. If prompted, review the license agreement, then click I Accept.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the updates. If prompted, reboot your computer.

Once all the updates gets installed, please restart your Surface Pro 3 and check again.

Hope this information is helpful. If the issue still persists, please post back for further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.
