Hello,

I need to migrate 2 server 2012R2 with DHCP failover role installed to 2 new server 2019.

I suppose is it not possible without any downtime because 2019 server will not be able to do failver with 2012r2.
I need to stop service, export configuration from 2012, import it on both 2019 server and build failover between both 2019.
Then I can start service on 2019 and all is ok ?

I suppose downtime is arround 10 min max

    Thanks you for your answer.

Maybe it's easier to do this :
Break failover with 2nd SRV 2012R2. (keep conf in 1st SRV2012r2)
    Build failover between 1st 2012R2 and 1 2019
Break failover between 2019 and 2012R2. (keep conf in 2019)
    Build failover between both 2019.

    Hi ,

I suppose is it not possible without any downtime because 2019 server will not be able to do failover with 2012r2.

The requirements of OS version are 2012 or later for DHCP failover. In theory, 2012 R2 DHCP server and server 2019 DHCP server can be failover partners. Of cause, the best practice is both of them running the same OS to replicate 100% perfectly, but that's not to say the failover relationship between server 2012 R2 and server 2019 cannot be done.

As you can see requirements to deploy DHCP failover below:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/dn338982(v=ws.11)

For how to migrate DHCP failover, you can refer to the following article:

Migrate Failover on Windows Server 2012 to 2012 R2

I need to stop service, export configuration from 2012, import it on both 2019 server and build failover between both 2019.Then I can start service on 2019 and all is ok ?

For this scenario, in order to reduce downtime, you can first delete failover partner relationship ,export configuration from server 2012 R2 and then stop DHCP service on server 2012 R2.

    Best Regards,

    Candy
