That usually means your monitor cable is lose or broken inside. But since you said it showed a message, maybe you could consider just using option #1 here to undo it and go back to before you got that message.
"Colour is not compatible" error while playing DVD
While recently playing a dvd I received a message saying that the colour was not compatible or some such rubbish. I'd already watched this dvd movie before with no problem. Now I cant get my computer to play a film in full colour as the setting have been changed without my knowing..
All I get is blue and mustard tones. How do I get back to full colour so I can watch my films?
