Hi,

One user in our org has recently started seeing all emails being delivered straight to deleted items.

On-prem Exchange 2016 mailbox - no inbox rules.

Message tracking for all delivered mail has RecipientStatus of {DefaultFolderType:DeletedItems}.

Any ideas where to go with this?

Thanks
Michael

    Hi,

Quick update - outlook /cleanrules appears to have resolved it for this user so many thanks for that advice!

    Cheers,

    Hi @Michael Chalmers ,

Please double check the inbox rules with this command in EMS(replace the e-mail address to the problematic user):

    Get-InboxRule -Mailbox user@domain.com

Also check if this user has chosen to ignore these emails, if so, any related messages related to this thread will be in the deleted items.
Messages in an e-mail thread are automatically moved to the Deleted Items folder

I found an article about this issue, hope it could help you: Why Incoming Emails are Going to Deleted Items Folder in Outlook 2016

    Hi Andy and Lou.

    Thanks for the tips.

I'd previously checked inbox rules using cmdlet mentioned by Lou . Nothing was returned. When viewed via Outlook client rules are evident albeit all are disabled. No rules are visible via OWA for user. I'd expect the rules visible in Outlook to be returned via get-inboxrule cmdlet despite them being disabled certainly that's the way it's behaving for my inbox/rules. I'll try Andy's suggestion of cleanrules and report back.
As a side note I've somehow managed to delete all my inbox rules (approx 10) simply by disabling one via OWA - in a bid to compare/contrast my settings with the affected user's I wanted to confirm disabled inbox rules still were returned by get-inboxrule - they were when I disabled one. However, after disabling one further rule in OWA they all were removed/deleted from OWA. I also had a MFCMAPI session running at the time and the previously existing entries in the rules table were all gone - leaving it empty. Think that's pretty strange behaviour...

    Thanks
    Michael
