I should have put this question in Windows 8.1 category. But anyway, I figured out one way to stop them from showing up in searches and that was to move all the files in the searched directory to a new directory. Then the phantom files no longer show up when searching the new directory. But I am wondering if there is another way of stopping these files from showing up in searches. And, anyway, why would they even show up if they no longer exist (i.e., they have already been deleted)?
Search feature finding nonexistent files
Sometimes I search for a file extension (e.g., *.sdb) just so I can delete all of them and the search engine shows me files that no longer exist. I had over 6,000 files and tried to delete all of them but over 2,000 show up as non-existent. I get a message saying "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in (name of directory)." If the file no longer exists how can I stop it from showing up in a search?
Thanks.
