Error code 0x80070035 windows 8.1

I have a Seagate Central nas drive which I connect from my windows 8.1 desktop via wifi to my router (or I did).  This has worked perfectly for a year then I started getting the error code above.  I changed the drive under warranty thinking the problem is with the drive but the situation is the same.  I can see the drive in my network and other devices connect to it (tablet and Windows 7 laptop) and I can connect via remote access on the internet but my desktop will not connect.  I get the same error if I try to connect to my laptop.  I have McAfee anti virus software and have tried to connect with the firewall turned off.  I have been in touch with Seagate and they think it is a Windows change that is the problem.  I have been in touch with my IP and they think the issue with Windows.  I have looked at a lot of the forums and tried their solutions to no avail.

I would be grateful for any suggestions as it is a something I was using all the time.  I know other people have the same issue and not resolved it yet.

Hi John,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are unable to connect Seagate HDD wirelessly with Windows 8.1 and I appreciate the effort made towards trying to resolve the issue. I will be happy to answer your query. However, let me ask you;

  1. Do you remember making any specific change in the computer prior to the issue?
  2. I understand that you are getting the error code, what is the complete error message wit the code?
  3. Have you tried connecting any other HDD (if available)?
  4. Are you able to connect the HDD through USB?
  5. When was the last time it connected fine?
  6. What all troubleshooting steps have you tried?

This can be caused due to several reasons and we will try to diagnose. Let's perform the methods below and check the status.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run hardware and devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

a) Press the ‘Windows + C’ to activate the charms menu or move the mouse pointer to bottom right corner of the screen and you will get the charms menu.

b) Click on ‘search’ and select ‘settings’ and type ‘**Troubleshooting’**and select ‘troubleshooting’.

c) Click on ‘Hardware and Sound’ and select ‘**Hardware and Devices’**and click on next to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Run the **Seagate Central Discovery Tool for Windows** and check if it helps, it is used to locate your Seagate device from PC while connected to your home network.

Method 3: Please check if your NETBIOS settings are correct:

a. Press Windows key + X

b. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections

c. Right-click on the connection and choose Properties.

d.  Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4 in the list.

e Click Properties, and then click Advanced

f.  On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to WINS tab.

g. Under NetBIOS setting, click enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK.

Method 4: Let's check if Client for Microsoft Network is being disabled somehow.

a. Press Windows key + X

b.Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.

c. Right-click on the connection and choose Properties.

d. Ensure that Client for Microsoft Network is Checked. Click OK.

As of now, please try the methods above and let us know the result. We'll be happy to assist you further.

Hello 2sdfsdf,

Thank you for posting your query. We are here to help.

Since you have tried the steps as directed on Niranjan Manjhi’s post. You can try this step:

Reinstalling the USB controllers and check the status.

  1. Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Device Manager”.
  2. Expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers”. Right click a device and click “Uninstall”. Repeat for each device.
  3. Once complete, restart your computer. The USB controllers will automatically install.

We also suggest that you contact your hard drive manufacturer and check if they will have other solutions to your concern.

Regards.

Hi there, I've had the same problem recently with my western digital mycloud external drive. Its connected via the home router and works perfectly fine on my other computer except for my laptop. Both computer and laptop are using windows 8.1. I have checked all the settings you mentioned in your steps above and it still has not resolved the error. I have even reverted to being connected via Ethernet rather than wifi to remove any possible interference etc. do you have any other suggestions on how to resolve this issue as its extremely frustrating as im constantly loosing documents etc due to the network path being lost all the time.
