windows update error 0x800780003

These two updates repeatedly fail to install. They show as 'Fixed' when i run troubleshooter, but they still fail to install. I suspect that this failure is blocking my grade from W8.1 Pro to W10, as it too repeatedly fails to install.

 any ideas anyone?

Kind Regards. Bryan

    The updates are:

    KB3046017

    KB3038936

I have yet to investigate 8936. 6017 is a know security issue.. The Advice is to either 'Run' the download immediately or to change the language and then attempt to install. (I paraphrase).

Unfortunately the solution fails to tell anyone how to 'Run' the download by avoiding the the usual selection and installation process.

The second option is to change the language. When offered 47 alternative language versions of service pack 1, I "Hid" all of them as I wanted to avoid unnecessary bloat in my system. I will now "Unhide" them and see if that solves the problem.

I shall return. In a little while.

    Regards . Bryan

Just tried both links, appear to work here.

The first link is the download center where you use its search bar to search for the KB numbers for the updates that wont install. Then download them and try to manually install them. What KBs won't install?

The second link has some info to check and a Fixit to run that may help.

I'm not sure what link wasn't working for you?

PS - glad I passed the test ;-)

Thank you for your time George.

You are correct the '8' is a rogue element It should not be there. It was a test. You passed.

    Seriously now.

I tried the link you gave, and it did take me to a Microsoft page. But there is nothing of use on the page. Apart from the heading line , it is blank. It serves no useful purpose whatsoever.

And the downloads are still failing.

Now! I have no doubt that I could be doing something wrong somewhere. My past history is proof enough of that, but I still have the problem.

So! Sorry George, but no coconut this time.

But my sincere thanks for your efforts.

    Kind Regards. Bryan

What 2 updates?  Have you tried downloading and installing them manually from the Windows download center rather than using Windows update?

Do you mean "800780003 (no central 8), in which case see this article which may help - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/910336
