I would like to make a video with the screen divided into quarters each running different footage simultaneously. The idea is that I would film myself playing 4 different musical instruments overlaid to create a 4 part band of all me.... Is Movie Maker capable of editing like this? If not any pointers on cheap easy software to do it?

Thanks

None of the versions of Movie Maker are designed to handle multiple streams of video.  Some people have created custom transitions for the older version of Movie Maker (WMM 6.0) that allow you to use a transition to combine two videos, but then you'd have to repeat that twice to get 4 streams.  It's convoluted and hard to get right.

You may want to look into something like "Nero Video" which allows for multiple video streams. I think it is about $30.  Another option is DaVinci Resolve Lite 11.1 which is a free download, but you may find it complicated to use.
