Problem when using Microsoft IME

Hello Everybody!

I'm a really satisfied Windows user so first of all, I'd like to say a big thank you for the developers!

I've got 2 problems when I use the (Japanese) Microsoft IME.

Problem 1.: after I press [win + space] the Microsoft IME switches to Japanese. The problem is that the default input type mode is always "Half-width Alphanumeric". I always have to click on the Microsoft IME's icon in order to switch to "Hiragana". If I open a new window, switch to a new window, etc., I always have to change the input mode again manually. Is it possible to make the input mode start with "Hiragana" by default?

Problem 2.: I use a Hungarian keyboard, becuase I'm Hungarian. When I switch to Japanese, my keyboard behaves as an English keyboard. This is quite a big problem, because there are so many differences in the Hungarian and English keyboard layout. For example:

  • the Hungarian keyboard works this way:

0123456789ö

  • the English keyboard works this way:

`1234567890

  • the Hungarian keyboard's "y" button is "z" on the English keyboard, and the "z" is "y". This is a very big problem, because "y" is used very often in Japanese. (rya, ryu, ryo, kya, kyu, kyo, etc.). This is a very big problem.
  • when I press [shift + 0-9] on the Hungarian keyboard, it works this way:

§ ' " + ! % / = ( )

  • when I press [shift + 0-9] on the English keyboard, it works this way:

~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * (

And this is not the full list of differences.

Is it my fault or this is the only way how the Microsoft IME works?

I really hope that there's a solution for these 2 problems. Especially, for the second problem, because it makes the Japanese typing so complicated that I simply can not tell. Not to mention how this problem slows down the work. I always have to think twice, always delete, retype. This is a very bad situation.

Maybe (I really hope) it's just a question of configuring properly.

Thank you very much if there's any help!

    Hello Stephen,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the status of the issue and I apologize for my late response.

I suggest you to right click on “A” which you will find on right side of taskbar to optimize the keyboard as per your requirement. Following are the steps:

    1. Click on properties, “Settings for Microsoft IME” will open.
    2. Click on Advanced, “Advanced Settings for Microsoft IME” will open.
    3. You can modify settings and input of Japanese language from mentioned tab.

All the settings can be modified from there only.

Please feel free to reply, in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

According to the fact that I paid for this software, I'm not very pleased with this "no answer" policy.

    Answer 1.:

We are planning to work on it, maybe there will be an update in the future.

    Answer 2.:

Hungary is a small market, so we don't deal with this problem.

It took me 1 minute to write down these 2 answers.

    Hello!

First of all, thank you for your answer!

I tried what you suggested, but the problem still exists. I went through the articles, too.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-163. The operating system is Windows 8.1 (Hungarian version).

I was thinking and I had an idea. I started the application called "screen keyboard". Please, take a look:

This is who the application looks like when the keyboard layout is Hungarian.

It is absolutely normal, this is how the Hungarian layout looks like.

But when I press [win + space] in order to switch to Japanese, it looks like this:

You can see what I was writing about in my first post. "Y" is "Z", "Z" is "Y" and there are all the other differences, too.

I have a feeling that maybe it's not just a simple configuration problem.

I understand that you are facing difficulty while using Microsoft IME and while keyboard input of Hungarian keyboard. It seems like the issue is related with the keyboard and language configuration. I will do my best to help you fix the issue.

    1. What is the make and model of your computer?

    1. Press Windows + R, type “**control panel”**and then click on ok.
    2. Change the view by (from windows explorer) to large icons or small icons.
    3. Double Click on “Language”.
    4. In the left pane click on the “Advanced settings
    5. In the second column, under “Override for default input method”, choose the language which you want to make your default input language.
