Error Msg in Event Logs

old title:  event id 98 and alert

I'm on Windows 8.1 and just added an external drive for File History backup purposes.  I have also initiated automatic daily online backup using Backblaze.

I am getting these Information alerts in Event Viewer every half hour or so:

Volume F: (\Device\HarddiskVolume50) is healthy. No action is needed.

They are accompanied by a Device Disconnect tone.  I don't see any backup activity going on at the time of the events.  This seems to be an alert indicating that it is safe to disconnect the drive but I am generally going to leave the drive connected.  How can I find out what event Windows is alerting me to and stop the tone?

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

Please check that the connection between the external hard drive and the computer is strong and complete. Also try to connect the drive to a different USB port and check if the issue happens or not.

As you are getting the Tone every half an hour. Please follow the below link to perform clean boot.

                    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 8.1.

Please refer to the section “what is next when I have a Clean Boot Environment?” in the above provided link.

Once you are done with the troubleshooting please refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” in the above provided link.

Please reply us back if the issue still persist.

I get the tone every half hour or so.  The File History is scheduled daily and I verified that it ran at 3:31 AM today.  The Backblaze is scheduled to run continuously but it is in a paused state most of the time and not active when I get the tone.

I understand that I'm seeing routine messages that I don't have to pay attention to but I want to get rid of the tone because it is disturbing and annoying.  I did not experience this with a previous smaller Toshiba drive.  This is only with a 1T Seagate drive and the new backup routine.  Do I have to turn the Device Disconnect sound to silent to get rid of it?  Maybe Backblaze can shed some light.

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

I have a few questions for you to get a better picture of the issue.

    1. When do you get the Device Disconnect Tone?
    2. What duration have you set for the files to get backed up on the hard drive?

The Information alerts in Event Viewer which you are getting for every half an hour is normal if you are not disconnecting the drive form the computer. You will have to worry about that only if you get any error message in event logs or if the backup fails.

Please provide the event viewer logs to check the root cause of the issue. Follow the steps to get into the event viewer.

    1. Press “windows key + X”.
    2. Select “Event Viewer”.

NOTE: Event Viewer is a tool that displays detailed information about significant events (for example, programs that don't start as expected or updates that are downloaded automatically) on your computer. Event Viewer can be helpful when troubleshooting problems and errors with Windows and other programs.

Please follow the below link to check with the File History, you can find out how the File History works using the below link.
