I use Maxthon as my browser but windows 8.1 will not allow me to set Maxthon as the default programme for http files, and when trying to open one, wont let me select it. How do I fix this?

Just to check I downloaded Maxthon and had no problem setting it as default.  I suspect it is something local to your environment

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM (if necessary) if you are on win 8 or higher

All instructions are in our Wiki article below...

System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files

    Hi Eric,

Sorry for the delayed response. I suggest you to uninstall and re-install Maxthon browser  and check if the issue persists. During the installation setup, set it as default browser. Check if the issue persists.

    Thank you.

Will not work. The set associations window asks to change it to chorme or IE or chose app from store. Will not allow me to choose Maxthon. In default programs, Maxthon doesnt appear in the list on the left even though it is my default browser.

Open the search pane and type: "default programs" and press enter.

Then click on either "Set your default programs" or "Associate a file type or protocol with a program"

From the next menu just replace the default program for http (html) files with your preferred browser.
