Question

old computer is going out - have brought a new one and want to know if can can use the same windows 10 on it with the same product key or do i have to buy a nother window 10

If your old computer use OEM system, new computer cannot use its product to activate Windows 10.
If your old computer use retail Windows 10 license, you could uninstall product key on it and install product key on the new one, then activate the Windows 10 on your new computer.

Hello,

First, check the type of license installed on your old system.

1. Open administrative Command Prompt.
2. Type slmgr /dlv and press Enter key.
3. Note the Product Key Channel section Windows Script Host box:

If it mentions OEM <method>, you’ve OEM license installed.

If it says Retail, you’ve retail license installed.

If it mentions GVLK, VOLUME_<method> then you’ve volume license installed. Note that GVLK stands for Generic Volume License Key.

Only Retail license have the transfer rights, while OEM license is tied to motherboard and can't be transferred to other machine.
