Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness Setup after Windows 8.1 Update

Original title-Problems after upgrading to Microsoft Windows 8.1 on my 2 in 1 tablet.

Hey guys and girls, I have phoned the Hewlett-Packard dealer shop in Malaysia last month and one of the staffs said that Windows 8.1 is not supported in 2 in 1 Personal Computer (PC) tablets. Is that true guys and girls?

Why I have said that? Because after updating my tablet to Windows 8.1, I cannot adjust the screen brightness, that is the only problem that I have found recently and I have told Microsoft and Windows Support on Twitter a few months ago. So, what should I do now? I have already uninstalled Windows 8.1 and reset back to Windows 8 about 2 months ago.

My product name is: HP Pavilion 11 x2 Notebook PC, currently running Microsoft Windows 8.

Do answer my question as soon as possible, thank you and have a nice day.

Hi Jatin, happy new year and the Upgrade Assistance mentioned that all drivers and everything is working! But the brightness still cannot be changed, again.

Hi, happy new year and sorry for the late reply, Vijay.

Yes, when I tried to change the brightness, it is still too bright and cannot be adjusted. I did install all the latest Windows Updates which includes both optional and important ones. I think the problem is due to the incompatibility between my tablet's hardware and Windows 8.1.

    Hi,

-What happens when you try to change the screen's brightness?

The way you adjust brightness and contrast varies and depends on your specific display. Laptop displays don't have brightness or contrast buttons on the front. For a majority of laptops, there isn't a control for setting the contrast. However, you can set the brightness of many laptops by pressing and holding the Fn key, and then pressing a function key to decrease brightness or increase brightness.

Make sure you have installed all the latest Windows Update including optional and important. Install the following driver and utilities.  You will be able to adjust the brightness by using the function keys.

If you are not able to change the brightness with even with the hot keys, the issue can also be related to hardware. I would suggest that you contact your computer manufacturer for better assistance.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need further assistance, please post back. We will be glad to help you.

    Hi Jatin,

Yes I have understood of what you have said just now.

My make or brand name of my tablet is Hewlett Packard and I have already told you the the model . I have ran the Windows Upgrade Assistance for two times and it said that all desktop apps devices and drives are fine but again, the brightness still cannot be changed.

    Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft communities.

As per your description, I have understood that after updating your system to Windows 8.1 you were not able to adjust the screen brightness .We will surely help you in getting that information about your system.

May I have the make and model of your Computer? As I was not able to get the exact model by the information you provided me as the model as HP Pavilion 11 x 2 Notebook PC. This issue with brightness could be caused due to incompatible display drivers on Windows 8.1 when installed Model.

Before upgrading to Windows 8.1 let us run Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant and check if it is compatible:

Upgrade Assistant scans your PC, desktop apps, and connected devices to see if they'll work with a later version of Windows, and then provides a free compatibility report. Depending on the version of Windows you're running, you can also use Upgrade Assistant to buy, download, and install Windows online.
