Location being accessed?

Hello.

Twice recently I have gotten an alert from an Event Viewer snap-in saying my location has been accessed. I open up Event Viewer, and it says "A program accessed information from a location sensor or default location". The programs being the Camera app, Windows Photo Gallery, and Explorer. Is this normal, or should I be worried about spyware? I have Windows 8.1.

    Hi Lacyn,

You might get the error message if location access option on your computer is enabled. You can turn-off location access by Windows and Apps by following these steps:

    1. Press Windows and C on your keyboard, and click Settings.
    2. Click Change PC Settings.
    3. Click Privacy in the left pane.
    4. Click Location in the left pane.
    5. And then turn the location access option off.

Please note, if an app depends on the location information to work in the computer, turning the location access off might result in that app not functioning properly.

If you still get the error in the computer, do let us know. We will be happy to assist you further.
