Reset import settings

My old laptop had windows 7. When I imported pictures from one memory card that contained pictures taken on different days it would automatically separate them based on the day that they were taken. My laptop now runs windows 8.1 and it just imports everything into the folder for the current day. It's not a big issue but it can be time consuming sometimes to sort everything out.

I can't find where I can change the import settings so they work like on windows 7.

Please help!

Thank you for taking the time to reply but this isn't what I was looking for. I've asked other people and they've pretty much told me the same thing.

I just want to be able to have the same import settings as windows 7, where the days would get sorted automatically based on the day created and not have to manually sort them out.

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi,

Welcome and thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with sorting the photos in Windows 8.1 Operating System. We will help you to resolve this issue.

I would like to inform that the dates created will not change only the dates modified will change when transferring files from SD card to computer.

Whenever you do your work on any file in your PC, your operating system keeps record of all your activities like when you created, modified or accessed a file.  The date of creation, date of view and date of document modification are persistently added to the properties of the file. One can easily see it if he wants. This is called “Timestamp” of Windows File.

Step 1: If you want to sort photos in Windows Explorer (My pictures) then follow,

    1. Upload the pictures/photos to the computer.
    2. Press Windows + E keys from the keyboard to open My Computer.
    3. Open Pictures folder and click on View tab at the top left part of the window.
    4. Under View tab, click on Sort by drop down arrow and select the preferred sorting option.

**Step 2:**If you mean to transfer the photos to your new computer in a way that these photos are place in folders according to their date taken, you can use Window Photo Gallery to sort this out. First, you have to copy the photos into your new computer without using Photo Gallery. After transferring, you can now sort the photos according to their date taken. Here are the detailed steps:

    1. Launch Photo Gallery.
    2. Press ALT + F then select Include Folder.
    3. Click Add then search the folder where the photos will come from.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Go to View tab.
    6. Click Date in the Arrange list. The client will sort the photos according to their date taken.
    7. To select all photos under the same date, click the date at the top of the photo, ex. October 2012.
    8. CTRL + C to copy the photos and create a folder with file name as the date taken.
    9. CTRL + V to paste the photos.

Hope this information is helpful. Kindly update the status of the issue. We will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.
