Split from this thread.

Hi,

I am getting the same error as the original user.

system restore failing error 0x80070570

......

I also downloaded the web search virus. I have a feeling the virus is blocking the system restore.

  • Bought the computer a a few months ago.

Dell

Windows 8.1

Desktop

Here is what I have tried

  1. Run system restore in safe mode - failed
  2. Run system restore with different check point- failed
  3. Uninstalled Antivirus (the McCaffe default) and retried system restore - failed
  4. Run in safe mode again - failed
  5. Scanned C - Drive for errors - failed

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Mark

Hello Mark,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the status of the issue and apology for the delayed response.

I would like to inform you that the best way to run the Check disk on the hard drive is from Windows Recovery Environment.

To do so, refer the following steps:

a. Insert the Windows 8 installation DVD in the DVD ROM and restart your computer.

b. After you boot your computer using Windows DVD, a black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.

c. Select the correct time and Keyboard type.

d. Click on Repair your computer in the lower left corner.

e. Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen.

f. Click on Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen.

g. Click on Command Prompt. Command prompt Window will be open with X: prompt.

h. Type “ C: ” (without quotes) in the command prompt Window and press ENTER.

Note: This will change the drive path to the primary partition.

i. Then type “CHKDSK C: /F /R” (without quotes) in the command prompt Window and press ENTER to repair corrupt sectors, if there are any.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Hope the information helps.

Please reply with the results, in order to help you fix the issue.

Thank you

Hello Mark,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. I appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue.

However, before we proceed I would require some more information to assist you better.

How did you scan the “C:” drive and what error message you received, when you say “Scanned C - Drive for errors – failed”?

In the meantime, I would suggest you to try the run the DISM Deployment Image Servicing and Management to fix the system file corruption.

To do so, follow these steps:

a. Press Windows key + X key from the keyboard, the Task list opens.

b. Click on Command Prompt (Admin).

c. At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

d. Close the command prompt and restart the computer. Check if it helps.

Hope this information helps.

Please reply with the results, in order to help you fix the issue.

Wish you a Happy New Year!

Thank you

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the status of the issue and apology for the delayed response.

If you don’t have the Windows 8.1 installation disk, then please refer to the article given below and follow the instructions to create a Windows 8 bootable disk, given in it: ***Create installation media for Windows 8***.

After creating the Windows installation disk, then try to perform the suggestion provided in my previous post and check if it helps.

    Hope the information helps.

Please reply with the results, in order to help you fix the issue.

    1. I do not have the Windows CD. It did not come with the computer (if it did, I lost it)
    2. When I execute

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    and

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

from the **Command Prompt (**admin) I get

    Error 87the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth option is unknown

The Adware seems to have taken a turn for the worse. I am barely able to function.

    Any assistance greatly appreciated....

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

    • When I scanned the C-Drive it said, "no errors detected"
    • The way I scanned it was by running Admin Command Prompt, and typing in Checkdsk C (or something close to that)

... I can't immediately test your solution, but sometime over this weekend I will definitely test it and report back to you. Just living in a world full of adverts for now :-)

Again, thank you so much for your reply. happy new years!

    Sincerely,

    Mark
