Change audio device for running program

I know how to change the audio device for a program before it's started (by changing the default audio device in sound settings and then starting the program). And I can change the volume for individual apps on different sound devices using the audio mixer.

However, I don't know how to change the audio device of an already running app, if it is even possible. It would be real tedious if this is only possible by quitting the app, changing the defaults, and then starting the app again. Do I have any other options?

Side comment: I find it very counter-intuitive that this isn't possible from the mixer, which is clearly aware of different apps using different audio devices. Why can I only change the apps' volumes from there, and not their devices? It's 2015!

Are you saying there is currently no way to do this?
