Original title: WINDOWS instead of Windows

Hi,

I want to ask you something,

Why my windows folder in Local Disk C: shows the name "WINDOWS" instead of "Windows"

It used to be "Windows" but suddenly it turns into "WINDOWS"

Why is this could happen and how I return it back to original name, "Windows"

Thanks.

    Hello,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

    I would like to know;

    1. Did you make any changes to your computer prior to the issue?
    2. Did you copy this folder from any other PC?

Please try these methods below and check.

    Method 1: Reset folder settings

Note: This step will reset al your personal settings of folders.

I would suggest you to reset the folder option settings.

    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Go to view
    3. Click on Options > change folder and search options.
    4. In General click on restore defaults.
    5. Under View > Folder view click Reset folder also click on restore defaults.
    6. Restart the computer and check.

If the issue persists, follow next method.

Method 2: Check in safe mode and clean boot mode of the computer

Step 1: Check in Safe mode

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using.

    Refer the link below:

Start your computer in safe mode

You can restart the computer to put it back in normal mode.

If the issue doesn’t occur in safe mode, follow step 2.

    Step 2: Perform Clean Boot

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a “clean boot” in Windows

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to help you further.
