Command prompt doesn't work after 8.1

I am having multiple problems after the 8.1 update.  My computer worked perfectly until the update.  Since the update, there are a ton of problems including delayed opening of programs and apps, programs that just won't open until some random point much later on & after restarts ( basic programs such as control panel, etc), failed process notifications, etc.

Rolling back to the previous version of Win 8 did not resolve the issue.

I can't open the store, update the store app or get on the list to receive the free Win 10 upgrade (wow, I wonder why MS is offering a free upgrade???  They really care about their users who are obviously their default beta testers without being told so).  Searches in reference to this problem suggest opening command prompt and entering code to fix/correct/update the issue, but I can't do this because:

Command prompt does not work.  I try to open as an admin, and the admin version to no avail.  It opens up but the cursor stops blinking and a message appears stating that the command processor has stopped working, and that Windows will notify me if a solution is available (of course, that does not happen).

Searches in reference to this suggest that command prompt might work if you create a new admin profile and do it from there.  Guess what:  That doesn't work either.

There are piles of people having similar problems.  I am so sick of these MS issues that I am VERY close to flipping MS off and going to Apple, which I personally have a major problem with on multiple levels.  However, MS is so horrible, that I am ready to turn to the evil empire.

Any suggestions?

My problems had nothing to do with incompatible drivers, applications or updates.  The problems were not with Win 10.

Did you read the original post or just my last reply?  I had to update to Win 10 to make my computer useful again.  The Win 8.1 update basically bricked my computer.

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I really appreciate your effort in this regard.

Most of the problems arises with the incompatible drivers or application. Installing the latest drivers from Manufacturer's website will make thing to work better. Also ensure to keep your system up to date with Windows Updates. There are lot of update rolled out to fix the most common issues that are faced with Windows 10.

You can also fix the problems by using built-in troubleshooter.  Press Windows Key then type ‘troubleshoot’ and select the same from the list. Select “View all” on the left panel to locate all troubleshooters.

    Hope this helps.

I downloaded Win 10 from the MS site directly.  Here is some info for the free update to Win 10 for those experiencing the myriad of issues after updating to Win 8.1 and if you are having trouble accessing or receiving the Win 10 update from the store, email, etc.  You can get a free download of 10 if you have Win 7 or higher without waiting on an email, etc. as the default propaganda from MS suggests.  This direct download will get you 10 if you are having similar problems as I was and could not get your store to work, etc.  Sorry for being redundant; I don't feel like editing the above to include everything succinctly after being up half the night with the issues I mentioned.

Below is some info to get you started:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/Windows-10-specifications

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I was able to do the full update and so far, the system seems to be working much more stable.  I am still having some minor program issues (Intel management and security isn't working, etc. but I'll do a fresh install; I suspect the other issues are also software-related).

Good luck to all of you experiencing these Win 8.1 update issues.  Based on my experience, I would Highly Recommend Updating to Win 10 to fix the problems.  IMO, it is not worth trying to fix Win 8.

By the way, after install of Win 10, be very careful when initially setting up your profile.  At the beginning, Windows wants to know everything about your activities, have your location sent to MS and it's subsidiaries and 3rd parties, and generally spy on you by default.  Look closely at the bottom of that page where it tells you that it is going to "help" you by keeping track of your location, etc.  You will see a customize these settings link; click it and opt out of whatever you do not want MS and it's 3rd parties to know about you.  I deselected them all except for crash reports, but that's just me.  Good luck.
