windows update agent error code 0x8024a005

I'm using a pre owned laptop with windows 7 starter. I recovered it & it wont update. I go to windows update & it says I never checked for updates. Once I click to check for updates it stays on checking for updates with no updates being downloaded & installed. I did the windows update reset & have cleared the cache but it still does the same thing. I finally looked into the computer management & was able to see that under the windows update agent, it is operational but it created 2 errors on 2 different dates. It showed me error code 0x8024001f & 0x8024a005 both detailing that windows update failed to check for updates. I have tried Microsoft fix it & nothing changes. I have recovered it 3 times & its the same issue. Is there another way around this?
