Is there a way to define a 'current release' iteration?

In our iteration paths, we define a Release, then under the release we define the sprint iterations. I have a number of queries on my dashboard that I want to refer to the 'current release'. I see the @currentiteration variable, but that seems to refer to the current sprint. Currently, for each new release I need to go into every query and define the iteration path under 'Release XYZ'. It would helpful to either define the current release in one place, or have it read the parent release dates automatically.
