    Hello Laurie,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I can imagine the inconvenience you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to fix the issue. However, I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions to narrow down the issue in order to provide you with better assistance.

    a. Do you get the error message at system startup?

    b. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

The issue might arise due to third party software conflicts or due to certain related system files corruption. We should proceed in the direction to diagnose the faulty software, or corrupted file generating the error message. I would, hence, suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

    Method 1:

Clean boot the system and check for the issue.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

***How to perform a clean boot in Windows***

If the issue does not occur in clean boot, then you may determine which application/service on the computer is causing this issue.

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

If the issue still exists, try the next method.

    Method 2:

Try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any files corruption:

    1. Go to Start, click All Programs and open Accessories.
    2. Right click on Command Prompt in the Program list and then select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK, or else click Yes.
    3. In the Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

For more information refer to this link:

***Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files***

Hope this information is helpful. Do let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.
