Cannot Delete System Image (even through Control Panel)

Hello.

I have been trying to remove all system images from Windows Backup. I was able to remove the backups themselves, but the images won't remove.

I did this:

  1. Went to Control Panel
  2. Went to "Backup Your Computer" under System and Security
  3. Clicked on "Manage space"
  4. Clicked on "Change Settings"

I selected the option "Delete all system images for this computer" and clicked OK.

I get the "Deleting system image" window, where it says "This operation can take a few minutes. Please wait..." And it has been stuck on that for half an hour. I have already tried restarting my PC, still got the same result.

I won't bore you with the reasons for my doing this unless anyone asks, in case it is distracting from the main issue.

Please help!

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are unable to delete the system image. We will help you to resolve the issue.

This issue may arise when your computer is infected with virus or malware, I suggest you to run a full scan of your computer using Microsoft Security Scanner and check if it helps.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

After performing virus scan, I suggest you to use Disk Cleanup from the below link to delete the files.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=windows-7

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

Thank you.

I had since removed the files manually. I also ran the disk cleanups to be on the safe side.

    Thank you for your time.
