Default Printer doesn't show 'green tick'

Question

We have 150 Windows 8.1 Pro clients that connect printers using GPO Preferences. (2012 R2 Datacenter servers)

The clients connect the correct print queues and set the correct default printer, however the default printer doesn't display the default printer 'green tick' (R-Click on the printer shows that it set as default!)

This is becoming a real problem for our finance team as they all run software that won't start without a default printer installed and it doesn't recognise the default without the 'green tick'
