Running Windows 8.1, trying to burn photos onto CD-RW discs. Continually get an error message to "insert a writable disc into Drive E" and then it is ejected, even though there IS a CD-RW in the drive.

Hallo Tom,

A number of issues can cause this, but first - how is the CD you are trying to burn going to be used? If it is to make back-up copies then I'd suggest avoiding CD (particularly RW) altogether. Rewritable discs can be fairly unreliable and the fact that your pc is not recognizing it could suggest it is a disc problem. Another possibility is that the disc has been used before and needs erasing - or that the optical drive's lens may need cleaning. Have you tried using different discs? Cheers, Ric.

    Thanks for the update, Tom...

I have experienced problems with branded CD/RWs and had dead cheap ones that work fine (and vice versa) - I think they are just too iffy to use for back-up. I'd go for an external usb hard-drive (I use two 500gb - just to be sure!) and I have CD-R/DVD-R discs of my earlier photos made before such drives were affordable. If you do want to make discs CD-R would be a safer bet IMO... All the Best - Ric.

Thank you, Ric! The CD was in fact to be used as a back up in case of hard drive crash, which I've experienced before. But the discs are brand new, never used Memorex CD-RW's.. Yes, I've also tried using one other new disc, and got the same result. I did just come across a note that I could perhaps try to right click on the E Drive, then go to Properties and Tools, and try a Scan and Repair. I have no idea if that will work.
