I would appreciate, if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better?
1. Did you check the issue status by copying the files manually?
2. How did you connect phone to your computer?
- What is the model of the phone?
I would suggest you to follow the steps given below and check.
- Try to transfer the images manually ( Try by selecting few pictures )
- Use the phone with different Windows 8 computer and check. This will help us to analyses the issue.
- Format the Card, use with Android Phone and check.
I would also suggest you to download and install Windows Photo Gallery, this might help you.
