    Hi SherylMarshall,

Thank you for posting your question here in Microsoft Community. The error code that your are getting when adding an account is usually caused by the following:

    • Your phone has an incorrect date and time set.

    • You do not have a data connection.

    • Your phone is in a "bad state."

Here are some steps that you can follow:

    A. Reset the time

To manually reset the clock on your Windows Phone 8:

    1. On Start , flick left to the App list, tap Settings, and then tap Date+time.
    2. Tap to toggle Set automatically to Off.
    3. Tap each of the options to set the current Time zone, Date and Time . When you're done, tap the phone's back button.

IMPORTANT: Double-check that the day, month, and year listed are all correct before you proceed.

    4.  Sign in with your Microsoft account again by going to Settings and then Email+accounts.

    B. Connect to Wi-Fi

If the previous steps didn't help, or if the date and time was set correctly, try connecting to Wi-Fi and sign in again:

    1.  On Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings, and then tap Wi-Fi. Select a Wi-Fi network and connect to it.

    2.  Sign in with your Microsoft account again by going to Settings  and then Email+accounts .

    C. Reset your phone

If the steps above still didn't help, your phone may be in a bad state, which means you will have to reset the phone to its original factory settings and set it up again.

To reset your phone, follow these steps:

    1. On Start, flick left to the App list and tap Settings.
    2. Tap About, and then tap Reset your phone.
    3. Tap Yes, and then tap Yes again.

Then step through the setup wizard again. During the setup, make sure to manually set the date and time, connect to Wi-Fi (if available), and try adding your Microsoft account.

    Sincerely,
