I am trying to resolve an error on my old Win 7 Pro laptop.

Update KB2670838 keeps failing.

Using instructions on KB2700601 I have found my missing servicing package and downloaded it on to a memory stick.   Now I have to copy the files to the Packages folder under %WinDir%\Temp\CheckSUR.    I cannot find this.   Search will not pick it up.

KB2700601 says I may need to create the directory.   Where please?

Thanks.

    Hi Gerry

    Thanks for this.

I amended the Folder Options as per instructions.

Typing  %WinDir%\Temp\CheckSUR pulled up C:Windows\Temp\CheckSur which contains 3 folders: MSU, Servicing, Manifests.

The instruction on KB2700601 was to copy my missing servicing\packages\Package to the

    %WinDir%\Temp\CheckSUR – Packages folder.

There was a Packages folder in the Servicing folder so I tried that and reran the System Update Readiness Tool – unavailable repair files message.

So, I tried putting my file into the Packages folder nested under MSU and ran SURT again – same unavailable repair files message.

So,  where am I going wrong please?

    Jill

Please change your settings in Windows so that you can see hidden files. Type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

    %WinDir%\Temp\CheckSUR

If CheckSUR is missing, right click on Temp and select New, Folder. Name the folder CheckSUR
