Time Incorrect on Surface 2

My Surface 2 is showing a date of 8th June 2126 - over 100 years in the future! I've gone into services.msc and stopped the WINDOWS TIME service and restarted the tablet and went back in and started the service (it's set to AUTOMATIC by the way). That has made no difference. The time is set to update automatically and is using the server time.windows.com to do this.

Of course, all Internet sites have problems with their certificates because the system date is incorrect. This even causes problems with the mail server in OUTLOOK (uses ACTIVE SYNC) though I can override the concerns about the certificate and synchronise my email - though the calendar is not much use since its set to over 100 years in the future!

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

I suggest you to change the time zone and then change the time, date and check.

How to Change the Time Zone in Surface tablet

* From the “Start” screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen to bring Charms Bar.

* Tap Setting > More PC setting > General.

* In the right pane, set your time zone to correct under the Time option. To adjust for daylight saving time automatically, turn it ON.

Go to the Desktop screen, touch or click where the time and date are displayed in the lower right hand corner of the taskbar. This should bring up a clock and calendar with 'Change Date and Time settings' at the bottom, touch or click that, change the settings, click or touch OK.

Hope the information helps, if you have any further queries, feel free to post. We are here to assist you.

Regards,

Guru Kiran

The time is set to update automatically and is using the server time.windows.com to do this.

The time server/service will not update the system time by more than a relatively small amount.  As you discovered you need to manually set the date and time before the service will keep your machine in sync.

That worked. Forcing it to the correct time has meant the clock now keeps time correctly, the software updates now work and there are no longer certificate problems when browsing the Internet.
