Hello,

I have a problem for activate the windows firewall in Windows 8.1

I already tried some stuff:

run malwarebytes and clean up all

run Microsoft Safety Scanner and clean up

give to MpsSvc the permissions to write

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Epoch

permission needed: Query Value; Set Value

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy

permission needed: Full Control; Read

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Defaults\FirewallPolicy

permission needed: Full Control; Read

also tried to give write permission to all \SharedAccess\ to MpsSvc

tried to run these instructions on cmd:

  1.  netsh advfirewall reset

2.    net start mpsdrv

3.    net start bfe

4.    net start mpssvc

5.    regsvr32 firewallapi.dll

but the first instruction give me the error that it can't contact the windows firewall service.

I created a bat file as suggested here

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2530126

but again the same error.

tried to export firewall policy from a working win8.1, and import to my pc, if I try to import these in advance options in windows firewall the "action" tab not show me nothing, just the "?", so I tried in cmd and it give me the 0x6D9 error.

There is something that I can do?

Thanks

Alfox

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum.

I appreciate your efforts towards trying to resolve the issue and I will certainly help you with this.

Are you logged in as administrator?

There might be some corruption in system files or could be some issues with the admin rights.

Method 1: Active hidden admin account

  1. Press Windows + R key on the keyboard.
  2. Type cmd in the run bar.
  3. In Command Prompt type this command: net user administrator /active:yes
  4. Press Enter and Restart the computer.

Try to turn On the firewall and check.

If you are able to do so deactivate the hidden admin account.

For that follow the step:

  1. Press Windows + R key on the keyboard.
  2. Type cmd in the run bar.
  3. In Command Prompt type this command: net user administrator /active:no
  4. Press Enter and Restart the computer.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2: Perform SFC scan

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. It is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Refer the link:  Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    Hello,

    thanks for your help.

The method 1 give me the error 5

The method 2 give me this log

    http://pastebin.com/zBRt8ntn

I thought to take all the corrupted files from an other win8.1 pc and replace them. Or as extreme solution insert the win dvd, and do an "upgrade" installation, in this way it replaces all corrupted files. what do you think about these solutions?
