APPCRASH - KERNELBASE.dll

Since an update in Feb this year my Corel Video Studio Pro x5 has stopped working. (Error message below) At first a simple restore fixed it, but of course the updates happened again and the same problem. I have uninstalled all updates and downloads since that time since I had no idea which one was causing this problem all of a sudden...but 4 MONTHS ON AND IT'S STILL NOT WORKING! SAME ERROR MESSAGE. Since all I use my laptop for is editing, I really need to fix this ASAP. Any help/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update on the issue.

I would suggest you to boot the computer in safe mode and then try to run SFC scan and see if it helps you to repair the system file corruption if they are present. For booting up the computer in safe mode refer to the article mentioned below.

Advanced startup options (including safe mode)

    Do keep us updated.

    Hi,

With the issue description, I understand that Corel Visual Studio Pro X5 stopped working and you get an error:****KERNELBASE.dll on your Windows 7 machine. I will certainly help you in getting this issue fixed.

I would appreciate if you could help me with more information:

Is this issue specific to this particular application or do you face any similar/related issue with any other application?

This issue might occur due to corruption in system/program files. Let’s follow below mentioned steps and check if that helps:

Method 1 : Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. It will scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows. To run the SFC scan, refer to the Microsoft article below.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Try method 2, if the issue persist

Method 2 **:**Run System Update Readiness Tool on your computer.

Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Hope this helps. Please let us know the results. Feel free to write us back for any further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

I have five IE browsers open, but took me many attempts.  Now, clicking on the two suggested links you provide, I keep getting this fault info...and most other times trying to open a new window. The five I try over and over and have open are my live Hotmail....Accuweather, Zergnet, golo.com and bridge web site.  Leaving them open so can continue use them.  I did follow your suggestion and typed in SFC.exe in search, then clicked on  it, but nothing happened, but since cannot open the other sites you recommend, sort of caught in a loop...by the way, when this error comes up, it says it is doing me a favor, closing down to keep from being in a loop...sort of ironic!

Appreciate some help troubleshooting without clicking on a site page.  I did follow ALL other suggestions that pertain to setting ALL possible ADVANCED setting check marks in the Internet Options setting, so hope you don't try and get me to GO there, thanks for assistance you might be able to furnish. Just hope this info I am providing gets to you when I click Submit.

By the way, have IE 11 and Windows 7...I have not done the free upgrade to Windows 10 yet.  There has been no updates done since May...but it does say, will complete install when I restart....but it doesn't. So been waiting too complete upgrade until next week.  Will that fix this issue? Or is it not related. Thanks.

UPDATE:  After several attempts, I was able to open the first web page, but with some changes to total URL.

Went through the CMD and ran scan...it showed found, but could not fix. So went into the manual procedure but it could not find the CBS...?  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

First, thanks for reply and info to you and Neha.  Had mentioned before, I did the SFC scan and did it again...but the info in the CBS log, I was not allowed to view. So, just went back to Restore of June 3 and browsers working. It must have been an update...so not doing anymore. Just trying to justify soon, what is ramification getting the Windows 10 upgrade before July 29th.

Sad thing is, everyone that has 7 or 8 tried it and either kept it and Hates it, or went back to 7 or 8 and will suffer with NO support.  As usual, MS really doesn't care about the regular person, it is big business only.

There is no reason to do away with MSE and others say the Defender does not do good job. And having to lose all the gadgets on desk top seems very unprofessional.  Seems like if Bill Gates would get out of his ivory tower and step down to our level and see what he is paying people to do...he might take a deep breath and say, some things don't need to be changed, just improved.  What also surprises me, is that NO MS engineer has the courage and stepped up and told him this!

Sorry about ranting, but I am only one that has access to my computer and Run as Administrator when it allows me, just hope Window 10 doesn't cause me as much problems as others are saying they experienced or live with!

    Thanks again for suggestions.
