Secure Boot error: Unauthorized changes to firmware... Windows 7

I have a fairly new (1 year old) custom built PC with Asus motherboard and Nvidia card, running windows 7 pro. Recently, I got a Secure Boot error: Unauthorized changes to firmware (red screen). I believe it's related to 1 or 2 recent updates. I don't restart my machine all that often so I'm not sure exactly when this issue became a problem.

After doing some research and noticing others with Asus motherboards having similar issues, although some of them are signature issues, I tried some of the solutions offered. For instance I tried turning secure boot to Other OS, rather than windows, and disabling Secure Boot by deleting secure keys. Both of those options got windows to start to restart but immediately got blue screen of death -- Or the windows won't start, try boot utility window (which also couldn't solve the problem)

I'm at a loss of what to try next. I don't want to reinstall the OS, as I have data I'd like to not lose. I have a second hard drive in the computer but it doesn't have boot capabilities (no OS). I can't seem to boot with the install CD, and get access to the boot drive to copy my data to an external HD or to the secondary HD.

Any other suggestions? Please help.

Thanks

As stated on the only thread this lovely update is forcing the bios changes

The only if is which combo of bios settings will fix it :)

Ok. I'll give those a try.

    Thanks.

It's strange, because the computer was working beautifully for a year. No bios issues. Just recently having this problem.

Go back to Boot and CSM options

Switch that to uefi only or Legacy only

You should try Legacy only if the setting in secure boot is still on Other OS.

If on windows uefi and oprom mode switch to uefi only on CSM

Since we have no idea how or whom installed the os you will have to play with the bios settings.

I did try this, as I kinda stated in my original post. I tried turning secure boot to Other OS first and got windows blue screen of death. Then I tried disabling Secure Boot by deleting the secure keys, but that lead to blue screen of death, or the windows isn't starting, try boot fixer screen (Which couldn't fix the issue either.)

Hopefully there are other ideas out there. At least how I can boot the machine without the boot HD (by CD maybe), and copy the data I need off the boot drive before reinstalling windows.
