SPlit Tool is not working

I added a video to Movie Maker. It is displayed on the storyboard, but I can not access the Split Tool. It doesn't light up, it is only gray. The trim tool works, but I wanted to split my movie into several pieces. Any advice?

First, make sure you have selected the clip you want to split. Then make sure you are on the Video Tools | Edit tab. You should see the button for Split. Next, make sure you have the playback marker somewhere in the *middle* of the clip. If it is at the beginning or end of the clip, it will be grayed out (because it doesn't make sense to split a clip at the beginning; it's already split). Click the button.

Barring all that, you can always use M on the keyboard to make a split in your clip wherever the playback marker is positioned.

So do any of those instructions work?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Comminity.

    Was it working before?

The trim tool seems to be not working in Windows Live Mail 2012. Even I tried to check in Windows Live Mail, trim tool option has been grayed out.

I suggest you to provide feedback through Windows Feedback app.

    Thank you

    Hi Uttam,

Do you by chance have another video editing program (free) that you recommend? I am trying to remove chunks of my video to only show the fun parts, so the split tool (or something similar) is critical.

    Thanks!
