Student showing up as "guest" or name is greyed out when trying to add to Breakout Room.

Question

I have some students who will show up as "guest" or their name is "greyed" out when trying to add them to a breakout room once they join my Teams meeting.

• We have made sure their Teams is up to date
• We have asked them sign into the app before joining the link for the meeting

This happens often and it's a different student for a period of time and then it randomly happens to another within the same class. Any ideas?

• Have tried re-downloading application
• sign in/out, quitting the app
• browser version

What is your Teams client version?

Do you mean this issue can be reproduced in Teams web client?

Are there any guest users in your Teams meeting?

To exclude the client issue, we firstly recommend you clean your Teams client cache file. You can follow these steps:

1. Quit Microsoft Teams.
2. Cut and paste the following location into File Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
3. Delete contents of the entire folder.
4. Restart Microsoft Teams.
