Project to Connected Screen

I updated and restarted my computer this evening and now I am trying to get my computer to project on my TV via an HDMI cable, which is was doing perfectly before the update. I can no longer get the "Project to Connected Screen" button on my computers keyboard to work. When I hit the function key (Fn) and the "Project to Connected Screen" button the side panel shows up on the screen but it seems to be stuck on the option "PC Screen Only". Everytime I scroll down and try to select any of the other options it just wont select them, it just stays on "PC Screen Only". Any advice?

    Hello Kelsey,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per description, you are unable to select the other options apart from "PC Screen Only".

    Method 1.

Step 1. Try to go into safe mode and check.

Boot the computer in Safe mode  and check if the issue persists. Safe mode is a diagnostic mode in which you are logged in with only necessary minimal services and drivers enabled. Check if the issue is reproduced.

To go into safe mode refer the link given below

Try to go into safe mode  and check.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

If the problem does not exist in safe mode, try to perform a clean boot and check.

    Step 2: Perform Clean Boot.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

Refer: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

If issue still persists try method 2.

    Method 2:

I recommend you to go through the following articles based on Setup of Monitors on Windows 8.1:

**Connect a second monitor or projector**

If issue continues then please perform pending Windows Update.

    Method 3:

Please follow the steps to install available Windows Updates.

    1. Press Windows + C, type Windows Update in the Search box, then click Windows Update in the results pane.
    2. Click Check for Updates. After the scan is complete, click Review optional updates.
    3. Click the check box next to the updates, then click Install updates.
    4. If prompted, review the license agreement, then click I Accept.
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the updates. If prompted, reboot your computer.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

And I did try shutting the computer down and turning it back on. I know that will be someone's advice. and it didn't work.
