* Original title: Windows 8.1 upgrade to windows 10

I have been trying for 2 days to get my 3 yr old laptop upgraded to windows 10 and it has failed each time at 40% with the following errors:

I have been searching all over the internet and turned off, uninstalled updated everything everyone suggests but still getting same error. I have tried the usb install, cd install and nothing works. Looked at log files but there is not much there that I see telling me what the problem is except this upgrade does not give detail errors for why it is failing. I guess I will have to do a clearn install on a new hard drive and then move all my data and reinstall all my software if the upgrade works from a clean install.

Any ideas would be helpful.

I have a Lenovo Twist S230u laptop that I purchased a little over 3 years ago.

Thanks

Joe

Are you using an ethernet cable or wireless to connect your computer to the router? An ethernet cable connection is faster and more reliable for large downloads. An ethernet cable is an inexpensive purchase.

    Disable your anti-virus whilst upgrading.

I suggest you download the Windows 10 Media creation tool ISO and do an In-place upgrade.

Download the updated Windows 10 Media creation Tool Build 10586:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

How to download an ISO using Media creation Tool:

If that does not work please provide more information to enable your problem to be diagnosed.

Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after the computer has been booted.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type msinfo32 and click OK . Place the cursor on System Summary. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save**.Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file.** The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. If the report is in a language other than English, please state the language.

Please upload to your OneDrive and share with everyone a copy of your System log file **** from your Event Viewer and post a link here. Please remove any earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key. From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

The other 2 suggestions I already performed with no results.

I have spent more time with no results and if I cannot find a solution I think I will be giving up and staying with Window 8.1 on this laptop but if someone has a solution that will work I will try one more time.

    Joe

Your display is not compatible. As Lenovo is offering Windows 10 support for your model suggests to me that there may be a solution if you update through the Lenovo website:

    http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Twist-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-Twist-S230u/3347/6LU?linkTrack=Homepage%253ABody\_Search%2BProducts&beta=false

Click the Update Your System option and see where it takes you.
