Hi

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. The cursor and touchpad are not working. I have reinstalled the Synaptics SMBUS driver from the Toshiba website and noted that when I run the device driver troubleshooter, that a code 31 Windows cannot download supporting driver software appeared. What should I do, as I am out of options!  Thanks

Hi Zasher,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We are glad to help you.

I request you to try installing the touchpad drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

  1. Download the touchpad driver from the manufacturer’s website.
  2. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
  3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Also, update the latest chipset drivers from the computer manufacturer's websiteand check for the issue.

Hope this information helps. Do contact us for further queries. We will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Jenith
