Windows 7 update problems

Anonymous
2016-03-15T17:13:43+00:00

I have bought 2 different laptops and the same problem on both.

One I restored back to factory settings from a USB recover drive Windows 7 starter and the other came pre loaded with Windows 7 Pro upgrade but no updates installed yet.

At first they both updated fine. Then they would just search for updates for hours and retrieved nothing.

Error 0x80070057

I have tried:

Windows trouble shooters.

Windows diagnostic.

Resting registry values.

WU Fixit.

Registering update files.

Clean boot.

Update 3102810. It worked for a min to find updates but wouldnt install them. Then when I went to search for updates again it just kept searching.

I have tried many other things but can't remember them all.

Any help with this would be greatly apprecated.

Thank you for your time.

You imply I've touted getting updates from wsusoffline.net.

You make an accusation then want answers. Where are your manners?

I am not trying to sell anything or solicit any ones business.

I am simply trying to reach out and help others has others have done for me.

    and uh it's free.

I have bought 2 different laptops and the same problem on both.

One I restored back to factory settings from a USB recover drive Windows 7 starter and the other came pre loaded with Windows 7 Pro upgrade but no updates installed yet...I've had to do at least 5 re installs on the same laptop.

We can only work with one (1) computer in this thread. Let's work with the one where you "had to do at least 5 reinstalls."

    ANSWER-BY-NUMBER:

    1. Is it the "Windows 7 starter" computer or the "Windows 7 Pro upgrade" computer?
    2. Was it a brand-new computer when you bought it or a used computer?
    3. Who manufactured the computer (e.g., Dell; Sony; Lenovo; HP)?

In several replies to recent threads of others in this forum with a similar problem, you've touted getting updates manually via wsusoffline.net & saying it was the "solution" for you. That being said...

    1. Is KB3139929, KB3140735, KB3138910, KB3139940, KB3140410, KB3139914, KB3139398, and/or KB3139852 listed in Installed Updates (not Update History) now and if so, were they offered & installed via Windows Update or did you install them manually via wsusoffline.net?

    5. Is KB3138612, KB3123862, KB3035583, KB2952664 and/or KB2990214 listed in Installed Updates (not Update History) now and if so, were they offered & installed via Windows Update or did you install them manually via wsusoffline.net?

Thank you so much for this information.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been trying the fix. Long story, but I've had to do at least 5 re installs on the same laptop.

The first 2 times the updates took but after that they would not install. I am getting a mesg from the standalone installer say "this update is not applicable to your computer" and wont install.

Any ideals or suggestions on this?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. i'm so think full for people like you helping others.

    Have a good day.

    Corbin

    Windows Update fix (new)

The following procedure applies in the case of install (re-install) of Windows 7.  It does not apply to usual, normal updating.

I am afraid you are going have to do the re-install again.  Not a terrible penalty to pay.  Usually takes way less than an hour.  Then, immediately proceed with the following procedure.   It is strange, but it really does work and a lot of people have proven it.

NEVER install anything but Windows Updates until your system is up to date.

    1. BEFORE you start the re-install, download (32 or 64 bit) KB3083710 and KB3102810 in advance, and store on a USB stick
    2. Start and complete the re-install of Windows 7 SP1
    3. Immediately after install is complete (preferably during the reboot), disconnectthe computer from the Internet.  Timing is important.
    4. Manually install KB3083710 and restart.
    5. Manually install KB3102810 and restart.
    6. Restore the Internet connection and launch Windows Update as normal.
    7. After a few minutes, you should have plenty of updates to download and install.
