When opening links from other applications under certain conditions will cause Edge start as if I reset settings. How to reproduce:
This will make Edge reset. For me these steps reproduce issue 100% of the time but I can provide more information if that didn't help. This only works when opening links from other programs (in my case specifically Discord, but I've had this problem with VS Code and some others as well so I assume it happens with any or at least most programs) but not when opening URL files.
This might not be the right place to report bugs, but I've searched everything and couldn't find a way to report issues that are not website specific and are rather issues with the browser itself.

Are you using the latest version of Microsoft Edge?
Have you tried this issue with other browsers?
I am using latest release version (88.0.705.68 64-bit), I did not try on preview versions. I tried Vivaldi and Chrome and both open links fine without resetting any settings. Edge also opens links fine if it already has any tabs open or if previous session had tabs open which it restores when opening again. If there are no tabs to restore Edge just does settings reset. I initially thought it might be related to edge user data being sym linked to other drive, but it's not the case, I tried it on 3 different machines 2 of which don't have sym links set up for Edge user data folder and I also tried moving data back to system drive and removing sym link, it keeps resetting, even on other PCs. It's simply an Edge issue, since it reproduces on all PCs I tried and it doesn't affect other browsers.

I try to refer to your steps and configure the mentioned settings. I try to check and reproduce the issue on the MS Edge 88.0.705.68 browser.
Based on my test results, I am not able to reproduce the issue. the links open fine and the Edge browser does not get reset.
If possible, I suggest you provide more information about the issue. I can again try to check for the issue.
