Suspicious folder

I was doing my routine search for services that I could change the start and other stuff just to know that things are on the place.

Then I found this guy and Imma little suspicious about him.

C:\Program Files\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\ESRV

Those are his files.

That is his service

And this is his task.

What took my attention was that I never saw him before in any of my previous Windows instalations. His name is suspicious for me. I thought that is somekind of update service (I had install an Intel driver thing from Intel's website), but is not that.

And in his bat file says:

"C:\Windows\System32\sc.exe" start USER_ESRV_SVC_WILLAMETTE "C:\Program Files\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\ESRV\esrv_svc.exe" --start --run_as_user_process --register_port  --address 127.0.0.1 --port 49331 --pause_on_user_switching --depend_on_key SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ESRV_SVC_WILLAMETTE --depend_on_value run --time_in_ms --pause 5000 --library "C:\Program Files\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\ESRV\intel_modeler.dll" --no_pl --watchdog 10 --watchdog_cpu_usage_limit 50 --end_on_error --kernel_priority_boost --shutdown_priority_boost --device_options "" time=no output=no output_folder='C:\ProgramData\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\IntelData\userlogs' limit_output_by=time output_limit=3600000 output_buffer=1024 il='C:\Program Files\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\ESRV\foreground_window_input.dll' ""

I thought it was from a game(I have a game called Watch Dogs), but idk why it would be so hidden from a normal user's eye.

Anyway...

do you Microsoft guys or Users know something about this thing?

PS: Its urgent I need to take the appropriate precautions for that, and my setting from Windows 8 doesn't open anymore, idk if it happened after or before this guy appears in my PC

Support (and updates) for Windows 8 ended on Tuesday, 12 January 2016.

If you cannot access the Windows Store, you cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1. Since Windows 8 is no longer supported, you have two (2) options:

OPTION A: Attempt to upgrade the Win8 computer directly to Win10 using the Media Creation Tool and (Win10) ISO. Start here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

  • Valid, legit Windows product key is required!

OPTION B: Purchase a full retail version of Windows 10 (US$119.99 & higher) then format the hard-drive & do a clean install of Win10.

Once more...

Your Win8 computer should NOT be connected to the internet or any local networks (i.e., other computers) in its current state. All business & personal data (including online banking & credit-card passwords) should be considered at-risk, if not already compromised.

Good luck!

    Hello Belarmino

I found the same folder when I was doing cleaning task. This folder was created when I installed "Intel Driver Update Utility", even found a programed task with the same name and folder reference.

I uninstall "Intel Driver Update Uitilty" and the folder and task disappear... so I can finally conclude that they where folders and programs for the Intel's Utility Driver Update program

Try to unistall (if you have installed too)

Has Windows 10 ever been installed on the computer?

Has Windows 8.1 ever been offered to the computer via the Windows Store?

IMPORTANT! => Support for Windows 8 ended on Tuesday, 12 January 2016.

If Windows 8.1 is not installed by 09 February 2016 (if not earlier), the computer will NOT be offered any further updates - or the free upgrade to Windows 10.

Yes a had Windows 10 installed.

XP last 12 years, why 8 ended so soon?

Your problematic Windows 10, has crashed from the nowhere weeks after the upgrade, so I get rid of him.

I'm so pissed with coz it made me reinstall the Windows after a accomplished 2 years without reinstalling the OS.

So I'm back to my Windows 8 that never let me down ofcourse only before this thing with Windows 10.

Where I know Win10 will be free to upgrade till July, so whats that all about?
